Without a doubt, during this quarantine, you must have huffed or mumbled under your breath how much you wished your pantry was bigger, or you had more bathrooms, or that you had an outdoor sanctuary... well, you are not alone. Under the fear of the threat of another wave of the virus oneday, buyers are looking for comfort features to make their quarantine a little tad bit more comfortable and tolerable. If you are not selling, well, you may wish to consider these features as a pandemic remodel ondeday, soon.
- More or larger bathrooms - Lets face it: handwashing anyone? Shower ten times a day darling? You get the point.
- Pantry - We need more space for all that stocking up of supplies, duh? Toilet paper anyone? Seriously, this item does not even need to be inside or near the kitchen. For me, ideally, it should be by the service/garage entrance or laundry room, or staff quarters, to avoid having all the newly arrived items from the grocery store inside the home, and rather, nearby an area where sanitation of the purchases can take place before they are stored away. This addition or remodel is definetly worthy of the investment.
- Freezer- I don't believe anyone that tells me their freezer was plenty big for their needs during the early days of the coronavirus. Yeah, ok, and my name is Marilyn Monroe. The old garage freezer is BACK! Or, add freezer drawers to your sleek kitchen and voila!
- The obvious...a new or the addition of a designated home office - This is a must. People Zooming around (as in Zoom calls) and staying that way likely for a while as people transition into the new normal, sure is a strong motivator to add lighting, storage or wall art! Buyers are surely looking at rooms with an eye for where to add their workspace set up, and you better believe it that the investment in great lighting or a staged home office area will add value to your selling efforts or at the very least, make you look like a million bucks on Zoom calls! Just do it.
- HVAC systems - HVAC systems that are more sophisticated and that can be closed from the outside, even if for a specific amount of time. This one is HUGE and the why is a given.
- Brass and Copper Baby! - Both are naturally antimicrobial and corrosion-resitant. A return of these two on fixtures, door knobs, etc is highly anticipated. Get a jump on it. And don't forget copper plumbing!
- Hands-Free Free Free - Faucets, light switches, thermostats, alarm systems, even appliances. Trust me, this will be big very soon.
- Bidets - you often thought about it... so now you have Coronavirus toilet paper shortage and extreme sanitation needs as the excuse. If short on the budget, consider a Washlet (a seat that fits on an exiting commode and turns it into a bidet of some sort).
- Outdoor Space - Few things worse than being stuck in a quarantine without any accessble outdoor space, for months! Build a balcony or spruce up your existing one with streamlined and high visual value plants and furnishings. If you have the space, build an outdoor deck, suitable for a killer outdoor yoga session, or BBQ production!
- Front door camera and remote lock/unlock feature - Pizza delivery guy at the door? Have no fear! Remote lock/unlock front door features are likely to become part of the new normal.Got something to add to this list?
